Chelsea borrower Leslie Ugochukwu has removed all mention of Southampton from its website Instagram page after he was left out of the squad for the 1-1 draw with Brighton on Friday evening.

The 20-year-old, who joined Chelsea last year for £23.1million from French side Rennes, moved to Southampton on a season-long loan in August.

However, the French midfielder has struggled to get game time under Russell Martin, starting just two of Southampton’s 13 Premier League games.

Ugochukwu was not included in Southampton’s traveling squad for Friday’s trip to Brighton, and the club’s fans noticed on Saturday that the midfielder had deleted all mention of the Saints from his Instagram account.

He will also be ineligible to play in Southampton’s next Premier League game against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

Now “Chelsea” may decide to withdraw Ugochukwu in the January transfer window given his lack of playing time.

Speaking in September, Martin gave his support Ugochukwu to improve on his first start in the 3-0 defeat by Manchester United.

“I thought he was good. I think he’s going to get better and better,” Martin said.

“I think he understands what we want and what we ask of him will grow. Yeah, I thought he was good.

“He’s also a bit tired. He was injured for a while at Chelsea last season before returning and being exhausted after 60 minutes against Cardiff.

“Being away on international duty, even though he didn’t play, being away is different, your routine, the way you train. He’s done well and he’s going to be really good.”
