A man was arrested in connection with the investigation of wire theft in Muti District

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Ill. (KFVS) – Authorities in Williamson County, Illinois have arrested a man in connection with a multi-county wire theft investigation.

According to the Williamson Co. Sheriff’s Office, investigators arrested Jacob D. Caldwell around 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 26 after he was found with stolen wire in his car that he had just finished cutting.

Investigators say Caldwell was involved in the theft and criminal damage of more than $100,000 in communications wire. Combined, these thefts disrupted phone and Internet service for thousands of customers in many countries.

Caldwell was charged with theft (class 2 felony), criminal damage to property (class 2 felony), possession of stolen property (class 2 felony) and theft of government property (class 4 felony). He was then taken to the Williamson County Jail.
