Deadly shooting in Milwaukee; the defendant is accused of murdering his own father

MILWAUKEE25-year-old guy Milwaukee a man is accused of shooting his own father in their home. Tevin Humes is now charged with first degree murder.

According to the criminal complaint, Milwaukee police were dispatched to a shooting near 29th and Cortland on Sunday morning, October 20th. An officer arrived at the scene and spoke with the 911 caller who stated that she found her husband “unresponsive with gunshot wounds.” A detective who arrived to investigate “found seven spent 9mm shell casings in the bedroom,” the complaint states.

The wife of the deceased talked to the investigators. She indicated that she was the defendant’s mother and that he had “suffered from mental health issues” and that “his symptoms have recently been worsening,” the complaint states. The wife told detectives that she last saw her husband alive around 2pm on Saturday, October 19. She stated that she did not return home until early Sunday morning and did not want to disturb her husband, so she slept. sofa downstairs. When she woke up and saw her husband’s truck outside, she thought it was strange. This made her go upstairs where she found her husband.

Detectives talked to various witnesses about this. One indicated that the defendant was seen on Saturday afternoon walking down an alley to the victim’s house. The complaint states that “the defendant was dressed in all black and had a black backpack with him.” The witness said the defendant “did not say hello to him, which (he) thought was unusual,” the complaint states.

Another witness said at around 5pm on Saturday: “she heard multiple bangs which at the time she thought were fireworks. (The witness) stated that a few minutes later, she saw the defendant quickly exit the backyard of the victim’s house, putting something in a dark backpack,” the complaint states.

Later on Sunday, October 20, the defendant returned to the scene. When the police began to approach him, he began to run away. There was a chase on foot – and at this time “the defendant threw away a black backpack”, the complaint states. When police arrested the defendant, they discovered he had a “9mm handgun in his front left pants pocket,” the complaint states.

The firearm was presented based on a preliminary forensic examination “which showed that all seven shell casings found at the scene of the murder were removed from a weapon that was in the defendant’s pocket,” the complaint states.

During the personal interview, the detective asked the defendant why he shot his father. The defendant replied, “Because they were in a cult and I had people following me,” the complaint states.

Humes first appeared in Milwaukee County court on Thursday, October 24. Bail was set at $250,000.
