According to the latest developments, the Karnataka Congress on Saturday expelled B. Gurappa Naidu from the party core after he was convicted on charges of sexual harassment and insulting the modesty of a woman.

Naidu was expelled from the Congress party for six years. His exclusion was announced in a press release by K. Rahaman Khan, chairman of the disciplinary committee of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC).

Congress faces sexual harassment allegations

Referring to the reason for this decision, Khan called the case filed against him about sexual harassment. Naidu, who was also KPCC general secretary, was booked under IPC sections 354A (sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), 504 (intentional insult). with the intention of provoking a breach of public order) and 354 (assault or violence against a woman with the purpose of offending her modesty).

What is the case?

According to information, the 38-year-old woman previously worked as a teacher at BGS Bloomfield School in Bengaluru, which employs more than 75 women. Naidu is the principal of the school who “tormented her with his sexual harassment”, the woman alleged in her complaint. According to the complaint, the woman was sexually harassed for more than two years. According to her, the crime took place from March 1, 2021 to August 15, 2023.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the Channammanakere Achchukatte police station registered an FIR on November 26. Naidu, however, denied the allegations, calling them false and baseless. He also announced that he will call a press conference on this issue in the near future.
