Weld County CIRT investigates after officer shoots man twice in response to shots fired – Greeley Tribune

The Weld County Critical Incident Response Team is investigating a shooting after a Weld County sheriff’s deputy shot a man twice after the man fired a couple of shots while deputies were on scene.

According to a press release from the Critical Incident Response Team, the man was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. He is expected to have survived.

At approximately 12:15 a.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a disturbance in the 200 block of 2nd Avenue Lane in unincorporated Weld County, east of Greeley.

When they arrived, deputies encountered a man armed with a handgun, who police said fired the weapon twice while deputies were on scene. The release did not indicate whether the man’s shots were aimed at deputies.

The Critical Incident Response Team consists of law enforcement officials in a local judicial district who investigate incidents in which an officer uses or attempts to use deadly force in the line of duty. The team presents the findings to the district attorney, who decides whether to drop charges against the officer or refer the shooting to a grand jury.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact Detective Michael Shea at 970-350-9676 or at [email protected]
