1 lakh rupees visa scam busted at Delhi airport during trip to Bangkok, two arrested

Immigration at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) has detected a major visa scam through According to a News18 report, a fake visa worth 1 lakh was involved which led to the arrest of several participants.

According to the report, one person, identified as Kanvaljit, was promised a visit to Greece 1 lakh of Amritsar resident Rahul Arora. According to the agreement, Kanwaljit was to go to Bangkok, stay there for a few days and then leave for Greece.

Sticking to the plan, Kanwaljit booked a SpiceJet flight to Bangkok on November 20 and there was no problem with the Thai visa on arrival for Indian travellers. However, on his return, the Bureau of Immigration IGI noticed discrepancies in his passport. Officers noticed that there were marks on the page of Kanwaljit’s passport that indicated the sticker had been removed, and upon further inspection noticed that the Greek visa had been deliberately forged, the report said.

Kanwaljit was unable to provide sufficient answers to the official’s questions and was detailed for further investigation, which revealed the bogus visa scheme. They discovered that Arora had pasted a fake Greek visa in Kanwaljit’s passport 1 lakh and rerouted the trip through Thailand in an attempt to cheat the authorities.

Kanwaljit produced a fake visa to board his plane and that’s when he was caught. He confessed to the conspiracy and the IGI Airport police booked him under several sections of the IPC and the Passport Act. A similar case was also registered against Arora under sections 318(4), 336(3) and 340(2).

Arora was traced to his hometown and confessed to the racket during interrogation. According to him, the scheme has been operating for many years.
