Popkru is concerned about alleged harassment of corrections officers – SABC News

The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (Popcru) has raised concerns about alleged intimidation and harassment of female correctional officers in the Northern Cape and Free State.

This is happening at a time when the country is celebrating 16 days of active actions against gender violence.

Popkru claims that high-ranking officials abuse their power and demand sexual favors from officials.

They marched in the Kimberley to draw attention to the oppression faced by women in public office.

Popkru Northern Cape chairman Zamani Matiso says: “The workers are being harassed by the regional commissioner. Workers can’t really do anything. Employees in this sector, especially correctional services, are no less protected by a woman running the region.
