Maharashtra BJP files police complaint against Congress leader over ‘EC Dog’ remark

The Maharashtra BJP has filed a police complaint against Ashok Jagtap, also known as Bhai Jagtap, over his remarks in which he compared the Election Commission to a “dog” that carries out Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s orders. BJP leader Kirit Somaiah said he has written to the Election Commission and lodged a complaint with the Mumbai Police Commissioner. “Such insults and humiliation of the Election Commission, which is a constitutional body, cannot be tolerated. Action should be initiated against Bhai Jagtap. In the last two days, Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) have all been targeting EVMs and elections. Commission because everyone is afraid of the Mumbai Local Municipal Corporation elections due in March 2025.”

Bhai Jagtap had earlier ruled out any chance of apologizing to the EC for his “unacceptable” remark. The remark came on a day when the Congress submitted a memorandum to the Director General of the State Election Commission alleging irregularities during the last state Assembly elections.

Jagtap, who is also the Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council, said the election results were “unbelievable”. He said that the people of Maharashtra are against the ruling BJP-NCP-Shive Sena Mahayuti regime and the credit for the one-sided election results should go to EVMs. “This is an unexpected (election) verdict. We can’t believe it… People in the state were totally against the (ruling) Mahayuti regime, but all the credit goes to EVM. Yes… EVMs are tampered with… I will say hacked at some places,” Jagtap said.
