This post is coming soon Dhanush filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and her director husband Vignesh Shivan for unauthorized use of clips from the film Naanum Rowdy Dhan in a Netflix documentary Nayantara: Beyond the fairy tale. The case was referred to the Madras High Court on November 27, where Justice Abdul Quiddows directed Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan and others to explain the allegations against them.

Additionally, Dhanush sent the couple a legal notice warning of possible legal action over the use of behind-the-scenes footage in the documentary. The notice also threatened to demand damages of 10 million rupees if the clips were not removed.

In response, Nayantara’s lawyer Rahul Dhawan said the couple had not violated any copyright laws. He clarified that the footage used in the documentary comes from the actor’s “personal library” and does not belong to Dhanush’s production company Wunderbar Films Private Limited.

ICYDK: In her open letter, Nayanthara revealed that she and her team spent two years trying to get Dhanush’s permission to use footage from Rowdy Dhaan’s Naanum in the documentary. When they couldn’t get a No Objection Certificate (NOC), they decided to use behind-the-scenes videos recorded on personal devices. She expressed her shock at receiving a legal notice following the release of the trailer, accusing her of using only a three-second clip without permission. Nayanthara wrote, “What was even more shocking was your official message after the Netflix documentary trailer was released. We were shocked to read the lines in which you questioned the use of some videos (only 3 seconds) that were shot on our personal devices. and this is also the visuals of BTS which are already widely shared on social media and are demanding 10 crore rupees as damages in just 3 seconds of this, this is unfortunate of you and says so much about your character, I wish you were on stage before by your innocent fans, but at least you don’t practice what you preach for me and my partner.”

Days after Nayanthara circulated the open letter, Dhanush’s lawyer issued a statement and asked her to remove the content within 24 hours. A statement from Dhanush’s legal representative said, “My client is the producer of the film and they know where they have spent every penny in the production of the film. Your client stated that my client did not instruct any person to shoot the background. footage of the scene, and the said statement is baseless. The statement also mentioned that Dhanush will be forced to initiate legal proceedings seeking damages of Rs 10 crore against Nayanthara and Netflix India if the content is not removed within 24 hours. Advise your client within 24 hours to remove the content infringing my client’s copyright regarding the film NAANUM ROWDY DHAAN by using it in your client’s documentary titled NAYANTHARA BEYOND THE FAIRYTALE, failing which my client will be forced to initiate appropriate legal action including , but not limited to a claim for damages of Rs. 10 crore against your client and Netflix India”.
