The jury rejected his claims that his responsibility was diminished by “abnormality of mind” and convicted him of murdering John McKinnon.

He will have to wait at least 28 years before he is eligible for parole.

During his three-week trial in High Court in Edinburgh Jurors were told the brute attacked his wife with a knife after discovering “flirtatious” text messages between her and a work colleague.

After stabbing his wife nine times in their Tarskaveig home, Sky McDonald armed himself with a newly purchased Mossberg 410 shotgun, a machete and four hundred rounds of ammunition.

He then drove about twenty minutes to his brother-in-law’s house, went inside where Mr. McKinnon was preparing breakfast, and stabbed him three times in the chest and body before turning and leaving.

Mr McKinnon’s wife, who is McDonald’s sister, found her beloved husband still standing by the kitchen sink before he collapsed on the floor and died.

WEAPON COURSE

In McDonald’s house, the police found a huge batch of weapons.

In addition to the six guns, they found a number of knives and edged weapons belonging to Macdonald in his home.

  • Among them:
  • 4 axes
  • 13 knives
  • Lock knife
  • Big ax
  • Also had six guns.
  • These were:
  • Four 410 guns
  • Two 12-gauge shotguns

MacDonald returned to his Subaru and reloaded his gun before driving about 45 minutes to the home of osteopath John McKenzie in Dorne, Localsh, to “confront” him about a back injury he claims was caused by the doctor.

When he arrived at the couple’s home, Mrs McKenzie was in the garden and went into the living room before Macdonald shot her in the face and head through the window from “two feet away”.

He then entered the couple’s home and found Mr McKenzie “covering” his wife in the bathroom before detonating him at point blank range.

Then the police beat him with a stun gun and arrested him

Mrs McDonald, Mrs McKenzie and Mr McKenzie survived their injuries and gave evidence in court during the trial.

The court was shown footage of Macdonald’s police interview the day after the attacks, in which he said he stabbed his wife in a “moment of madness” and then felt “complete darkness come over me”.

The focus of the 12-day trial was the extent to which McDonald was in control of his actions during the attacks.

The court heard evidence about his mental state from two psychiatrists and two psychologists, who agreed he suffered from autism spectrum disorder and major depressive disorder.
