Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley help Eagles run away from Bengals in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI — Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley led Philadelphia to another impressive performance on Sunday.

“Eagles” are gaining speed at the right moment.

Hurts threw for three touchdowns and another TD to help Philadelphia beat the Cincinnati Bengals 37-17 for their third straight win.

“We’re executing at a high level right now,” said DeVonta Smith, who had a stunning 45-yarder landing reception in the third quarter. “Guys are in the right places at the right time.”

Hurts passed for 236 yards on 16-for-20. He also had 10 carries for 37 yards.

Saquon Barkey rushed for 108 yards and Philadelphia (5-2) won for the fourth time in five games overall. The Eagles scored the final 20 points of the afternoon.

“I thought it was a great team win today, a great performance as a team,” Hurts said. “When you play defense like that and you can stop the offense, being able to play at a high level with the star players on this team, it’s a great job.”

Hurts’ 1-yard run in the fourth quarter capped an 85-yard march that ate up 7:37 of the clock to give Philadelphia a 34-17 lead with 4 1/2 minutes left. That drive followed an interception by Burrow.

“The team we just played is a really good football team,” Eagles coach Nick Sirianni said. “They’ve won a lot of games, so I thought it was great to be able to do that and get points for it and get some time off.”

Nakobe Dean then recovered a fumble by Mike Gesicki and Jake Elliott kicked a 47-yarder to cap it off.

Smith had six catches for 85 yards and AJ Brown had five for 84. The Eagles had 397 yards of offense.

Cincinnati (3-5) finished with just 58 yards rushing, continuing its season-ending woes. Burrow went 26-for-37 for 234 yards and a touchdown.

The Bengals have won two in a row, beating the Giants and Browns, the same teams the Eagles beat in their previous two games. They started the season 1-4 and were trying to get back to .500 against Philadelphia.

what is happening

The Bengals have dealt with the fact that they need to start faster in games. On the first possession, it looked like their day had come.

Their kickoff went 70 yards, took more than 10 minutes off the clock and went wide with a 2-yard TD pass from Burrow to Ja’Marr Chase. Cincinnati was 5 for 5 on third down on the drive.

But on the second drive, it stalled and Evan McPherson made a 27-yard field goal. “Cincinnati” scored another goal – Chase Brown’s 4-yard run in the third — the rest of the way.

“The second half wasn’t good enough,” Bengals coach Zach Taylor said. “Didn’t play enough. Lost the turnover battle. In the second half, they scored after every possession.”

Agape

It was the first NFL game between 24-year-old twin brothers Chase and Sidney Brown. Sidney is a second-year safety for the Eagles. The twins played for the University of Illinois before being drafted in 2023.

Chase had 12 carries for 32 yards. Sydney also entered the game for Philadelphia.
