Customer shoots cashier in dispute over whether chef was wearing gloves while making pizza: police

An angry customer reportedly shot and killed an employee at a Milwaukee store after he became angry over whether the cook was wearing gloves while making his pizza, according to reports.

Gunman Charles Leggett, 38, opened fire on cashier Jameel Owais, 26, inside Action Food & Liquor around noon on Saturday, October 19. according to WISN 12.

Leggett ordered a pizza, paid, then took his ticket to the back of the store, where another man made a pizza for him, Owais’ brother Mohammad Owais said.

But Leggett returned to the cashier and began arguing over whether the cook was wearing gloves — which Leggett believed were not, the station said.

Leggett pulled out a gun, reached over the counter and put a bullet in Jameel Owais’ chest before running away, the network reported.

Jamil Owais, the father of a 6-month-old girl, was at the counter of a store owned by his family, the report said.

Leggett has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide — and the heartbroken family of Jameel Owais doesn’t know why.

“He shot him right here in the heart and he died,” Mohammad Owais said Thursday, choking up as he spoke.

“He is like my son. Like me, he came when he was a little boy and grew up with me…so this thing hurts me too much.”

Jamil Owais, who came to America from the West Bank in 2013, covered for his brother that day while he ran an errand, the network reported.

“It is a great loss,” said Mohammad Owais. “He’s a good guy, he’s never hurt anyone. He is friendly with everyone in the neighborhood.”

Leggett, a convicted felon with a gun ban, was being held on $200,000 bail.

If convicted, he could face up to 75 years behind bars.

Shoppers were stunned by the news and described the cashier as a kind, funny and caring person, the station reported.

The employee making the pizza said it was all for nothing — he was wearing gloves, according to the report.
