Plans for the “28 Years Later” trilogy have been confirmed and the first details of the plot have been revealed

New plot details from Sony Pictures 28 years later were discovered. The long-awaited sequel will hit theaters in the summer of 2025 — 22 years after the franchise’s main film, 28 days laterwas originally released and 18 years after this sequel film, 28 weeks laterdebuted in cinemas in 2007. The new film marks a reunion between 28 days later directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, as well as a sequel titled 28 Years Later, Part II: The Bone Templealready announced

In a recent interview with IndieWire, Conclave star Ralph Fiennes offered an exciting update on progress 28 years later and its sequel, confirming, “It’s three movies, two of which have been shot.” The actor went on to reveal some interesting details about the plot of the sequel, adding: “Britain has been going through this horrible epidemic of infected people for 28 years, who are violent, rabid people with a few pockets of uninfected communities. In the center is a young boy who wants to find a doctor to help his dying mother. He leads his mother through this beautiful northern English countryside. But, of course, the infected are hiding around them in the woods, hills, and forests.”

IndieWire reveals that Fiennes plays the doctor himself 28 years laterThe young protagonist, sought out by the actor who is teased, “is someone we might think of as weird and strange, but she’s actually a force for good.” In addition to Fiennes, 28 years later stars: Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, Edwin Riding and Cillian Murphy. Aside from the details provided by Fiennes, little is known about the film’s plot and characters. However, Murphy is expected to reprise his role as Jim 28 days later in both Boyles 28 years later and managed by DaCosta Bone temple.

It remains to be seen whether Murphy will also appear in the supposed third part of the sequel trilogy. The same goes for the director, stars and title of the project, which are still undisclosed. In fact, it’s possible that Sony might wait to see how it does 28 years later does before officially taking part in the second sequel. In any case, Fiennes’ comments confirm that the current plan is for 28 years laterthe story will span not just one or two, but a total of three films.

Fans will have to wait to see how big a role Fiennes’ character will play in the full trilogy of the still-developing trilogy.

28 years later will be released in theaters on June 20, 2025.
