Las Vegas police arrested a burglary suspect after a lengthy investigation

After a three-month investigation of 34 businesses, Las Vegas Metro Police arrested Cedric Hasan, the suspect in a string of street thefts Spring mountain corridor.

Surveillance video on Nov. 19 shows the moment officers, along with a SWAT unit, apprehend Hasan at his residence near Farm Road and Aviary Way.

“Leave the door open. Stand there,” the officers commanded during the arrest.

According to the Las Vegas Police Department protocol of detentionHassan had previously been taken into custody by the North Las Vegas Police Department just 10 days before his Nov. 19 arrest for shoplifting at a tire store.

However, the metro police were not informed about Hasan’s earlier arrest or his release from jail despite being wanted since June.

Further investigation led Metro detectives to Hasan’s residence and place of business, where they discovered work equipment and tools allegedly used in several burglaries throughout the valley.

Businesses affected by the crime were informed of the arrest, and many expressed confidence that Hasan would eventually make a mistake.

“It was only a matter of time, you know?” said Colin Fukunaga. “Especially considering the amount of video materials and the nature of the work. I think you can really identify not only by clothes and little things, but also by mannerisms. It is much easier to determine who might commit such a crime.”

The investigation also revealed Hasan’s extensive criminal history, including his involvement in three separate burglaries throughout the valley and his arrest in 2016 for robbing 20 businesses.

According to a witness statement in his arrest report, Hasan has a gambling addiction.

Hassan is accused of stealing more than $213,000 in cash.

His court hearing is scheduled for December 9.
