Harris says the Pennsylvania church’s vote for her helps fulfill God’s expectations

Vice President Harris was interrupted by jeers as she spoke at a Pennsylvania church on Sunday to emphasize her faith in a battleground state nine days before election day.

From the podium at Christian Compassion Church in West Philadelphia, Harris was referring to a Bible story about the apostle Paul when someone started screaming. Harris fell silent and clapped his hands as the church band played music to drown out the bystander who was not caught on camera.

“That’s why we’re fighting for democracy,” Harris repeated as he was ushered away.

“Every vote counts,” she said to applause. “Every vote counts.”

The break was gone in less than two minutes, and Harris continued her message. At the beginning of his speech, Harris offered who votes for her fulfills God’s will.

“In just nine days, we have the power to decide the fate of our nation for future generations. And on this day, and then on this beautiful Sunday morning, I was reminded that God expects us to help Him,” Harris said, breaking off the applause with a laugh. “We have work to do.”

“Like Paul, we must remember that divine power is at work through our actions, and we have the power to overcome division, fear, and chaos,” Harris later said. “It is within our power to fulfill America’s promise and promise to create opportunity for every child and protect our basic freedoms, the power to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with our Godly strength as understood by the Black Church and used for generations.”

VANCE TAKES FAITHFUL APPROACH AFTER HARRIS MOCKS PRO-LIFE AT RALLY: ‘JESUS IS KING’

As she has done in past addresses to black congregations in recent weeks, Harris sought to contrast herself with “those who seek to deepen division, spread hatred, sow fear and create chaos, who believe that the measure of a leader’s strength is based on who you beat.”

Here in Pennsylvania Right now, each of us has the opportunity to change something, because at this moment we face a real question: in which country do we want to live? What kind of country do we want for our children and our grandchildren?” Harris said. “A country of chaos … of fear and hatred, or a country of freedom, justice and compassion. And the most important thing in life in a democracy is that we, the people, have a choice to answer this question.”

“So let’s respond not only with our words, but also with our deeds. Yes, by our prayers, but also by our insistence. Yes, by our faith and also by our faith, but also by our feet. When we go to the polls, Harris said. “And yes, these nine days, these next nine days will test us. They will demand everything we have. But when I think of the days ahead and the God we serve, yes, I am sure His power will work through us. Because I know we were born for this time.”
