Stauber Announces Infrastructure Funding for Duluth, Pine River Airports – Brainerd Dispatch

WASHINGTON. On Monday, October 21, Congressman Pete Stauber announced $1,000,000 to help fund the replacement of the existing control tower at Duluth International Airport, one of the oldest in the nation, and $1,140,000 to replace the General Aviation Terminal Building at Pine River Regional Airport.

“I am pleased to announce that federal funding is returning to Northland. Airports in our communities, regardless of their size, contribute greatly to our regional economy. They ensure Minnesotans stay connected and bring tourism and commerce to our doorstep,” Stauber said in a news release. “I am pleased that Pine River Regional Airport will focus this investment on general aviation, helping to inspire the next generation of aviators and keep our aviation industry strong. Also, I’m grateful that more investment is being made to replace the control tower in Duluth. I have been advocating this project since 2019 as its replacement is critical to keeping up with the growing number of travelers the airport serves each year. This project is very important to the bright future of aviation in northern Minnesota, and I know our work is far from done. I will continue to work with Duluth Airport Executive Director Tom Werner to secure the full amount of funding needed.”

In 2023, Stauber and Sen. Amy Klobuchar led the Minnesota delegation at the sendoff

letter

to the Federal Aviation Administration to expedite the reviews and approvals needed for Duluth Airport to apply for a grant to build a new control tower.

In 2024, Stauber and Klobuchar also led the Minnesota delegation

letter

to President Biden requesting that his administration prioritize funding for the Duluth traffic control tower.

Earlier this year, Stauber and Klobuchar jointly announced $10 million in funding for the project.

From time to time, our editorial team reports articles under the heading “staff”. Often, the byline “staff” is used when transcribing major news stories that come from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and that require little or no reporting. This attribution line is sometimes used when a story has multiple authors or when a story is created by combining previously reported news from different sources. If external sources are used, this is noted in the history.
