The couple is accused of violent Sask. carjacking as the search continues for 2 more suspects

A man and woman have been charged in connection with a violent carjacking that prompted a manhunt and several dangerous person alerts northeast of Prince Albert on Thursday, but Saskatchewan RCMP say two other suspects are still at large.

A group of masked men reportedly shot someone and stole their car near a White Star grain elevator just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday, police said at the time. The victim was taken to hospital with unknown injuries and remains there, RCMP said.

Shortly before 10 a.m. Central European Time on Thursday, police declared four dangerous persons as they chased the suspects north toward Thunder Rapids. The RCMP said at the time that they believed the suspects had been involved in several armed vehicle robberies, had weapons and should be considered dangerous.

The suspects fled on foot after their vehicle reportedly collided with heavy equipment on Highway 123 near Thunder Rapids, about 170 kilometers northeast of Prince Albert, around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

RCMP said Friday they were able to arrest a pair of suspects near Tobin Lake later that day after they were spotted by a police helicopter running along the banks of the Saskatchewan River, about three kilometers from where they were last seen when they entered the bush from the highway.

An 18-year-old woman and a 33-year-old Prince Albert man face one count each of aggravated assault, robbery with a firearm, discharging a firearm with intent to injure and six other counts of unlawful possession of a weapon. They are expected to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday, October 28.

However, the other two suspects have still not been found in the mossy, marshy area “despite an intensive police ground and air search of the dense, dense brush with marshland,” the RCMP said in a news release Friday.

Mounties say they are still searching for the two remaining suspects and are investigating to determine any connection between the suspects and other incidents in the days before Thursday’s attacks.

A week earlier, Prince Albert RCMP received reports of two separate carjackings at gunpoint in rural Garden River on Oct. 17.

“We ask the public to remain vigilant and not approach any suspicious persons and to report all suspicious activity to police by calling 911 in emergencies and 310-RCMP in non-emergencies,” the RCMP said in a statement Friday.

Residents and businesses from Holbein, past Nipawin and into the Thunder Rapids area, especially along Highways 355 and 55, are asked to check any surveillance video, doorbell camera and dash cam for any signs of a black Honda CRV with three clothed suspects. black and bandanas between October 23 and the morning of October 24.

“Committee Saskatchewan is also asking residents in these areas to check on their neighbors to ensure everyone’s safety,” the statement said.
