Drunk man sets fire to petrol pump in Hyderabad, video goes viral in ‘On Dare’

In a shocking incident, a man believed to be intoxicated lit a lighter and started a fire at a petrol station in Hyderabad on Saturday, officials said. The video of the incident went viral on social networks. The man who caused the incident was identified as Chiran.

According to media reports, he arrived at the gas station in Nacharam district in a drunken state and was holding a lighter. It all started after one of the employees of the Arun gas station asked the accused if he was planning to light the device. He then challenged Chiran and made him “do it if he had the guts”.

Chiran responded to Arun’s call and lit the lighter, which caused a sudden fire as fuel was being fed to the scooter. CCTV footage captured the terrifying moment a woman and child bystanders managed to escape as the fire broke out, while others fled to safety amid the sudden chaos.

After the incident, the police arrested both the men — Chiran, who set the fire, and Arun, who provoked and challenged the accused. Both were charged with “damage with fire and explosives.” The accused, who hails from Bihar, will appear before the court, police said. “This dangerous act not only endangered lives but could have caused a catastrophic explosion, especially in this crowded area with heavy traffic,” NDTV quoted Inspector G Rudveer Kumar of the Nacharam police as saying.
