Seven people were hit by a car during a fight in Rosemont,

Seven people were hit by a car during a gang fight that got out of control in Montreal.

The incident happened during a party at a reception hall on rue Bélanger, near 6th avenue, in the Rosemont-La Petite-Patri district.

The conflict allegedly started inside around 3:25 a.m. Sunday and escalated outside.

“At the scene of the incident, the police found two injured people on the sidewalk. They were taken to the hospital, but there is no fear for their lives,” said constable Véronique Dubuque, spokesperson for the Montreal Police Service (SPVM).

About 30 minutes later, there was a report of five more victims.

“Another 911 call was made to inform police that five other people involved in the incident were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries,” explained another SPVM spokeswoman, Caroline Chevrefils.

The victims are men and women aged 29 to 47.

The motive for the attack is still unknown, but it is part of an ongoing investigation by the SPVM.

“According to preliminary information received by police officers on the spot, the incident occurred during a conflict that arose during a meeting in the hall. The people got out and the car hit seven people before fleeing the scene,” Dubuc said.

A security perimeter was created to protect the scene of the incident, forensic experts were called to the scene. Traffic on this section was restored around 6:30 in the morning

It is not known whether the victims are related to the attacker.

The driver of the vehicle is still being sought.
