Fayetteville police are investigating a homicide on Cowan Street

Detectives are investigating the death of a 37-year-old man Saturday night near Camden Road and Southern Avenue, the Fayetteville Police Department said Saturday.

According to a press release, at 10:12 p.m. Saturday, police responded to the 2000 block of Cowan Street in reference to a report of a shooting.

Law enforcement officers who arrived at the scene found an adult man with gunshot wounds, the report said. Medical personnel were called to the scene and the victim, identified in a Sunday news release as 37-year-old Jonathan Eastman, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he died of his injuries.

Homicide detectives are encouraging anyone with information to come forward, and Fayetteville/Cumberland County Crimestoppers is offering $2,000 for information submitted through Crimestoppers that leads to an arrest.
