Marvel’s Spider-Man suddenly references an iconic scene from the manga

Marvel’s Spider-Man might be a bit of a badass as his latest fight has taken a page out of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure book.

American comics and manga have long been intertwined, with a large number of crossovers occurring especially in the past few decades. The latter sees one of the greatest heroes in MCU referencing another iconic franchise.

Miles Morales, who accepts the mantle of Spider-Man from Peter Parker, faces the Vulture in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #25. During the fight, there is a large panel where they face each other, and it uses similar positions and angles to the face-off between Jotaro and Dio in Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Starlight Crusaders.

This moment marked a sea change for the franchise, which was on the rise at the time. That season introduced the Stands – their version of superpowers – and this battle showed how Jojo’s would develop.

Since then, the scene has become a fan favorite and beloved throughout pop culture because it’s so iconic and recognizable. The folks at Marvel clearly feel the same way, and I’d like to think Miles and Peter would appreciate that too.

Fans are also enjoying the crossover. “Perfectly. The creativity and dynamic poses really bring a unique twist to Miles’ world,” says one reader, while another shares a meme that states: “This is such a dope peak.”

Some have pointed out that the vulture makes a Jujutsu Kaisen pose as well. Artist Federico Visentini knows his stuff when it comes to big Japanese franchises, and he knows how to make people interact in different regions of the comics medium. I hope this piques the curiosity of both Spidey and Jojo.

The issue is available now if you want some American heroism with a manga twist. In the meantime, we have a guide My hero academy season 8 if you want more anime heroism in your life.
