An alcoholic Wiggenhall St Germans shouted abuse in King’s Lynn town centre

“I’d like to say I’m guilty, but I don’t think I’ve been spoiled.”

These were the words of an alcoholic who screamed, cursed and abused people last month.

Thomas Bowers, 30, of Legge Place, St German’s, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday where he admitted disorderly conduct in Lynn town center on September 6.

Despite suggestions that he may not have been drunk, he soon admitted to magistrates that he had been drinking heavily the night before and then downed three ciders before 12.30am on the day of the crime.

Prosecutor Abdul Khan said members of the public reported that there was a drunk man in Tower Street who had offended himself.

The officers were greeted by Bowers with an open can of alcohol in his hand. He said, “Okay, computer trouble.”

He continued to shout abuse at members of the public before he was arrested.

Bowers too went on trial in August for being drunk and rowdy. At the same time, he also shouted and cursed.

He appeared in court unrepresented on Thursday and told judges: “I’m an alcoholic – I’ve been drunk since last night.

“I only had two or three cans and it happened around 12:30.

“I don’t eat well and I don’t sleep well. It’s all getting too much – I’m working with people, I’m trying to cope with it all.”

Magistrates fined Bowers £56.

“It’s cheaper than I thought,” Bowers said before announcing he was heading back to the pub as he left the dock.
