Terengganu policeman pleads not guilty to theft of motorcycle engine

KUALA TERENGGANU: A police corporal pleaded not guilty to a charge of stealing a motorcycle engine in the Sessions Court.

Sinar Harian reported that the accused, a 32-year-old corporal working at the Chukai police station, was seeking trial on charges of stealing a motorcycle engine in July.

According to the indictment, he is accused of stealing a motorcycle engine belonging to a woman from the Kemaman District Police Department’s traffic investigation building between 12:45 a.m. and 12:15 a.m. on July 20.

He was charged under section 379A(1) of the Criminal Code for stealing a car, which carries a prison term of one to seven years and a fine on conviction.

Police Prosecutor Muhammad Afif Mohd Amir prosecuted while the accused were represented by lawyer Masliela Ismail.

Masliela asked for the bail to be reduced, citing the fact that the accused is low-paid, married and has a family to support.

Sessions Judge Wan Suhaila Mohd set bail at RM800 with one surety and fixed Nov 27 for mention in the case.
