Last week, the Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to an abandoned vehicle in the middle of the roadway, a cat stuck on a power line, a criminal incident at the library and multiple reports of fraud.

In accordance with weekly log of known calls published by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

On Monday, Oct. 14, staff at the Summit County Library in Frisco reported a conflict between two men. When the verbal altercation between the two ended, officers reported hearing what sounded like a shot being fired into a firearm. The library staff evacuated everyone from the building, no shots were fired. The suspect left the scene. Deputies investigated by talking to the other man and witnesses and reportedly found a probable cause for several crimes. Deputies found the man nearby and detained him without incident. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the man was carrying a gun and was charged with multiple felonies, including menacing.



Also on Monday, deputies received a report from a man who claimed that his ex-girlfriend’s father tried to break into his apartment and pointed a firearm at him. Law enforcement officers on the spot promptly established that the man was hallucinating. Deputies called for medical attention and the man told medics he was hallucinating from taking a large dose of prescription medication. Nothing criminal was found, the man was released to his relatives.

On Tuesday, October 15, a man found his neighbor drunk in the grass near his apartment. The neighbor couldn’t stand it and kept falling when he tried to get up. Deputies demanded medical assistance, and due to the man’s level of intoxication, he was transported to St. Anthony Hospital.



On Wednesday, Oct. 16, deputies received a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of Tiger Road that was unoccupied and had no lights on, creating a hazard. Deputies tried several times to contact the owner of the vehicle, but were unsuccessful, and towed the vehicle away.

Also Wednesday, a Wildernest man paid an unidentified person on Facebook $2,000 for sports tickets that turned out to be fraudulent. The deputy drew up a protocol, the investigation is ongoing.

On Thursday, Oct. 17, a man from unincorporated Breckenridge reported that two moose were stuck in a playset and he thought they needed help. Deputies responded, but it appeared the moose were able to get out and move on when they were done having fun.

On Saturday, Oct. 19, a woman paid $2,000 to rent an apartment in Wildernest that she found on Craigslist. She was supposed to move into the apartment the next day, but when she arrived, she found that the apartment was already occupied and not for rent. The woman is working with Apple Pay and Zelle to try to stop the payments being made. The investigation is ongoing.

Also Saturday, animal control received a report of a cat stuck on a power line in Summit Cove. Animal control officers used the dog’s hammock as a blanket, wet food as bait and urged the cat to try to get it down, which they eventually did. The cat was not microchipped and was taken to an animal shelter.

On Sunday, October 20, a bus driver reported a belligerent passenger who was upset about a meeting that he believed did not arrive on time due to a mechanical problem that delayed the bus’ departure. Law enforcement agencies say that the passenger verbally threatened the driver with violence, and a security guard who was standing nearby helped remove the passenger from the bus while waiting for the deputies. According to the sheriff’s office, before deputies arrived, the passenger tried to pick a fight with the driver, but nothing physical happened. Deputies arrived on scene and investigated before issuing a summons to the passenger for disorderly conduct and disorderly conduct in a public place.

Also last week, Next Page Bookstore in Frisco donated four boxes of books to the Summit County Jail. For the past few years, the business has regularly donated brand new books to those in custody, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
