Man accused of Marengo shooting pleads guilty – Shaw Local

One of two people who were charged last year in connection with what Marengo On Tuesday, police described the drive-by shooting as the two children were in the car. He pleaded guilty on Tuesday and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Jacob A. Mains, 25, of Belvidere, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm, a Class 1 felony, warrant filed at McHenry County show. In exchange for the guilty plea, additional charges including possession of a weapon and ammunition by a felon, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and two counts of endangering the life or limb of a child were dismissed, according to the ruling.

Charges in connection with the shooting are pending against Jennifer M. Luttrell, 37, of Marengo. Luttrell is scheduled to appear in court on November 26, with a trial scheduled for December 9.

Cases related to police shootings say happened around 9:00 p.m. on October 26, 2023 after a report of a person with a gun in the 500 block of Kennedy Drive. Officers Marengo and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said they found “multiple bullet holes in the exterior of the residence and were unable to make contact with anyone there,” according to a police news release at the time.

Belvidere police eventually made contact with the man, who had non-life threatening injuries. According to the release, police said they determined the injuries may have occurred at Marengo’s home.

At the time, Marengo police thought a man had pistol-whipped a woman inside a Marengo home and left. He then allegedly drove back and fired “several times into the residence” before leaving the scene, police said.

According to court documents, two children, aged 3 and 13, were in the car at that time. According to the documents, Maines and Luttrell were charged and the pair were arrested a month after the shooting.
