Following the clashes between Dhaka College and Dhaka City College students, Dhaka College teachers have called for the relocation of City College to prevent future conflicts.

AKM Rafiqul Islam, General Secretary, Dhaka College Teachers’ Council, made the demand during a press briefing at the college auditorium this evening (November 20).

In a written statement, Rafiqul Islam said more than 150 students and a teacher were injured in the clash.

He demanded proper medical care for the victims and called for immediate action against those responsible for the violence.

“Teachers of the city college, who are directly involved in the incident, should be brought to court. Also, the home affairs adviser should visit the campus to conduct a thorough investigation,” he added.

He alleged that the attack was part of a plan to disrupt the 184th foundation anniversary of Dhaka College and undermine the incumbent government.

He also alleged that the city college and the police were directly involved in inciting the violence.

The teachers demanded strict security measures at the Dhaka college campus and urged the authorities to fulfill their demands within 24 hours to restore a peaceful learning environment in the college.

Earlier in the day, chase and counter-chase skirmishes broke out between two groups of students. To stop the clashes, the police used tear gas and stun grenades.

Earlier in October, clashes broke out between college students, prompting City College authorities to announce a 20-day shutdown.

The college reopened yesterday, according to a statement signed by City College Principal (Acting) Professor Kazi Neyamul Haque.
