(Nationwide)1,274 “5.6% ↑” due to high or regular debt… the highest amount is 10.6 billion won

A list of major and persistent offenders who have failed to pay more than 10 million won each in local taxes and local administrative penalties for more than a year has been released.

The Ministry of Public Administration and Security released a list of 12,274 people, including 9,999 local tax defaulters and 1,175 local administrative sanctions and fines, which is 5.6% more than last year.

The largest amount owed was Kim, 47, who lives in Yeonin, Gyeonggi-do, who failed to pay 10.657 billion won in local income tax.

Until the middle of last month, Meng Tae-kyung, a political broker who was on the offender list for failing to pay 25 million won in local income tax, was not included this time, but is believed to have been expelled as he recently paid taxes.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Security plans to instruct the Korea Customs Service to require the confiscation and public sale of local tax offenders imported abroad, and to crack down on high-value and habitual offenders by banning them from leaving and detaining the offenders for a certain period of time.
