Laurium man pleads not guilty to charges Jan 6 | News, Sports, Work

WASHINGTON. A Laurium man accused of participating in a Jan. 6 riot pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanor charges during his arraignment in federal court Tuesday.

Adam Mancuso participated in a hearing via zoom before Judge Emmett Sullivan in District Court for the District of Columbia.

Mancuso faces four misdemeanor counts of the majority of the defendants in the Jan. 6 case: knowingly entering or remaining in any prohibited building or area without lawful authority; intent to obstruct or disrupt the proper conduct of government business or official functions, disorderly conduct in the Capitol building or grounds; and parades, demonstrations, or picketing at the Capitol building.

Six days after the event, FBI agents were tipped off about a selfie Mancuso posted on Facebook of himself inside the Capitol building. According to court documents, after matching him to footage based on a Hatchetman logo hat by the Detroit rap group Insane Clown Posse, they identified him at multiple points inside the Capitol building during two entrances that day.

The case was extended for 90 days.

Tuesday’s hearing comes after the election of former President Donald Trump, who promised to pardon a “large portion” on January 6 of the defendants who were convicted of protesting the certification of his opponent in the 2020 election, President Joe Biden.

A status conference is scheduled for Zoom on February 18 at 2:00 p.m. With Mancuso’s consent, the time until the hearing will be excluded from consideration of the constitutional right to a speedy trial.
