HILLSBORO COUNTY, FL. An on-duty deputy in Hillsborough County was in danger when a traffic stop took an alarming turn.

According to the sheriff’s department, the deputy had no choice but to shoot after the man pointed his gun during the traffic stop.

The incident happened on Saturday, and dash cam footage shows two deputies approaching a car they had just pulled over.

“He was very compliant but quickly turned around when he was grabbed by the firearm to the right of his seat,” the deputy said.

The situation is shown on the camera video when the deputy driver started talking to the driver.

The body camera recording of the deputy, who was on the passenger side, shows the driver pulling out a gun.

“He got out of the vehicle with a firearm and then our deputy stepped back and started shooting the suspect multiple times and eventually he hit the suspect,” she said. “The suspect was treated and transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.”

The violent altercation is a reminder that officers risk their lives every day.

“This is a tragic case, for which we are here, but our deputies were ready for it,” she said. “This is a stark reminder that law enforcement does not conduct routine traffic stops.”

The identity of the murdered person has not been established.

The deputy who fired the fatal shot had no previous use of force and had been with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office since 2022.
