Louisiana, last day to file for  million cash settlement

If you a Application “Cash”. user in Louisiana, you might get some money. However, today is the last day for you to file a claim as part of the $15 million class action settlement.

If your Cash App account was part of the December 2021 data and security breach, you have until Tuesday, November 19 at 1:00 a.m. to file a claim.

In a class actionthe plaintiffs sued Cash App Investing and Block Inc. for “companies’ failure to exercise reasonable care to protect and safeguard consumer information.”

The lawsuit stemmed from a December 2021 data breach that resulted in the “unauthorized public release of the personal information of 8.2 million current and former Cash App Investing customers.”

Additionally, according to the lawsuit, the former employee accessed Cash App users’ personal information while working for the company and downloaded the data without the users’ knowledge.

As part of the settlement, the mobile payment service was ordered to pay $15 million in compensation.

How do I know if I have the right to file a claim?

You are eligible if you were a CashApp user who made unauthorized fraudulent withdrawals or transfers from your account between August 23, 2018 and August 20, 2024.

If you meet these requirements, you’re eligible to claim up to $2,500, according to the Cash App website.

Eligible users must also not receive any reimbursement from Block Inc., Cash App Investing, or a third party.

What types of claims can Cash App users make?

According to the Cash App, users can submit the following:

  • Out-of-pocket losses: Users can submit a claim that proves their Cash App account is involved in the data breach. If a user is eligible for a refund after submitting the required documentation to the company, they can receive up to $2,500.
  • Lost time: Cash App users who apply may be eligible for time-loss compensation. Users can submit a claim for up to three hours at a cost of $25 per hour for time spent on unauthorized users and data breaches.
  • Transaction losses: If a Cash App user has suffered monetary losses and has not received compensation, they can also file a claim.

What if I have more than one Cash App account?

In this case, users only need to submit one form. If you have multiple Cash App accounts that you want to claim, we recommend that you include all of your Cashtags and information about each on one claim form.

As a reminder, the deadline is 1:00 a.m. CET on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
