Man pleads guilty after fatal attack by thug XL.

Ian Langley, 54, was attacked while walking his puppy in Shiny Row, near Sunderland, on October 3 last year.

Christopher Bell, 45, formerly of Maple Terrace, Shiney Row, appeared at Newcastle Crown Court.

He pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dog which caused bodily harm resulting in death while in a dangerous condition without control in a public place.

Bell, who now lives in Hull, has been released on bail and will be sentenced on January 27.

The accused called his dog Titan – “American hooligan XL”.

Officers shot the animal Northumbria Police said they were at the scene to protect the public.

Ian Langley, 54, suffered a fatal neck injury following the attack in October 2023

Neighbors said Mr Langley, who was originally from Liverpool, was walking his Patterdale puppy, called Bow, when he was attacked.

He died in the hospital from neck injuries.

The law was adopted in February banned people from possessing XL hooligan breeds without a certificate of exemption.
