US teens caught in stolen car after high-speed chase ends in fireball

Two teenagers led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a violent collision that led to the arrest and multiple charges of both suspects. Nineteen-year-old Michael Howell-McGlynn and Christine Elizabeth Romero were pulled from the burning wreckage of a stolen 2015 Subaru Forrester on Thursday after a dramatic chase through Berthoud, Colorado, USA.

The chase began after 4 a.m. when officers from the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office spotted a Subaru spinning in a parking lot. While trying to stop the vehicle, the suspects accelerated sharply, reaching a speed of more than 160 km/h. When the teenagers were approaching the intersection, the police tried to stop them by ramming the car. The Subaru hit a curb, hit a tree and burst into flames.

Despite the intense heat and smoke, officers were able to extricate Howell-McGlynn and Romero from the vehicle, retrieving a rifle from the wreckage. Both teenagers were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries and later booked into the Larimer County Jail.

Howell-McGlynn was charged with reckless driving, obstructing a law enforcement officer and evading a vehicle resulting in bodily injury to another. Romero is charged with conspiracy to commit a Class 4 felony and an outstanding warrant for assault on a law enforcement officer.

In their photos, Howell-McGlynn looked battered, his head wrapped in bandages and blood dripping from his chest, while Romero looked striking with two-toned hair, metallic silver eyeshadow and a swollen, bloody lip.

Larimer County Sheriff John Fayen condemned the reckless behavior, saying, “This driver’s reckless behavior shows an alarming disregard for the safety of others. Our deputies will continue to protect this community and apprehend dangerous criminals who threaten lives and property in Northern Colorado,” the statement said. NY Post.
