Woman dies after being hit by three cars, police hunt for hit-and-run driver

BEDFORD TWP., Mich. (WTVG) – A pedestrian is dead after she was involved in a crash and two other vehicles also crashed into her. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said Erica Todd, 43, of Erie, Michigan, has died and authorities are searching for the driver who first hit her.

The first crash happened on Smith Road, west of Telegraph Road, in Bedford Township, shortly before midnight on November 16. The sheriff’s office said Todd was walking on Smith near the side of the road wearing dark clothing.

An unknown driver traveling eastbound on Smith struck Todd and fled the scene, officials said. Investigators do not have a description of this vehicle at this time. Todd stayed in the middle of the road.

Shortly after, a 65-year-old Toledo woman was westbound on Smith Road when she hit Todd, the sheriff’s office said. The woman from Toledo stopped. That’s when a third driver, a 19-year-old woman from Erie, was eastbound on Smith and hit Todd. That driver also stopped and stayed put with his passenger.

The drivers who stopped after the accident were not injured, the authorities released them from the scene.

Investigators are now looking for whoever is responsible for Todd’s first hit and have appealed to the public for help. Those with information can call 734-240-7548 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-speakup or submitting it online at 1800speakup.org.
