The Children’s Committee initiates a suo motu case

The Child Protection Committee on Sunday filed a case against a man for allegedly presenting his son as a reincarnation of an avatar of Kalki or god Vishnu. The commission has also sought a report from the Bharatpur police station regarding the incident.

A 15-day deadline has been set for submitting the report. At the same time, the district department for child protection was instructed to conduct a thorough inspection.

The accused was identified as Kashinath Mishra, who was accused of using his son by projecting him as Kalki Avatar. The controversy erupted after photographs of Mishra’s son emerged, showing him sitting in a chair with the sacred tulsi on his feet.

“We have received a written complaint that a man is using his son for religious activities, which is hurting people’s feelings. Based on the complaint, we have sought a report from the Bharatpur IIC. The district child welfare officer has also been ordered to start an inquiry into the incident,” said Mandakini Kar, Chairperson, Odisha State Child Rights Commission (OSCPPRC).

“We have given them 15 days to submit a report. Necessary measures will be taken upon notification,” she added.

The NGO had earlier lodged a complaint against Kashinath and his son with the Bharatpur police station. However, the police did not register a case but received a complaint and started an investigation.

“We received a complaint that the father-son duo was trying to hurt religious sentiments by presenting the son as an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is too early to talk about what happened. An investigation will be launched to reveal the truth,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Tapas Pradhan said.
