A group of job seekers staged a sit-in demonstration in front of Petrobangla, Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation, to protest the postponement of their oral exams by Karnaphuli Gas Distribution Company Limited (KGTCL).

According to witnesses, during the demonstration at 11:00 a.m. today (November 17), Petrobangla authorities closed the main gate at the security post, which blocked the entry and exit of officials.

The protesters alleged that KGTCL, a subsidiary of Petrobangla, had postponed the oral exam without any valid reason.

Sources said that at one stage of the demonstration, representatives of Petrobangla met with representatives of the job seekers and held a meeting.

After the rally, the demonstrators called off the protest and gave the authorities until December to resolve the issue and left the Petrobangla premises at 12 noon.

Earlier, KGTCL had conducted written examinations for the recruitment of the company’s Revenue Department under 17 categories.

But the oral exams were repeatedly postponed, which frustrated job seekers.
