Peanut Squirrel’s Widow Interview on Saturday Night Live: ‘They Chopped His Head Off’

Portraying the imaginary widow of a beloved pet, Sherman talked about the trials and tribulations she and her squirrel husband faced as Internet celebrities.

Saturday night live brought out Sarah Sherman as Peanut protein during a hilarious Weekend Update skit. Dressed in black, the beloved rodent’s wife appeared on the news panel to discuss P’Nath’s plight with host Colin Jost. “The police broke into our house,” said Mrs. Hazel Nut, who died, adding that the authorities “beheaded him during a rabies test.”

Colin Jost interviews beloved squirrel widow Peanut on SNL

The euthanasia of the Peanut Squirrel by New York City authorities has become a controversial topic of discussion in the run-up to the November 5 election. Portraying the imaginary widow of a beloved pet, Sherman talked about the trials and tribulations she and her squirrel husband faced as Internet celebrities.

“Oh, it’s so hard to be in the media, Colin,” said Mrs Hazel Nutt, adding: “I used to do normal squirrel things like, you know, chasing my own tail or running into the middle of the street when I see a car and then ( trembles uncontrollably)”.

Reflecting on Peanut’s death, Hazel said that the moment the cops burst into the house, “P’Nat bit one like a goddamn hero.” She went on to joke that “Peanut” was her husband’s human name, while the euthanized squirrel’s real name consisted of an unintelligible squeal.

What happened to Peanut the squirrel?

On October 30, Peanut was seized by the Department of Environmental Protection, citing anonymous complaints that the home was harboring rabies. The internet-famous squirrel belonged to Mark Lango for seven years before her tragic murder. Earlier this week it became known that the squirrel was decapitated as part of a rabies test. However, according to the test results, P’Nat did not have rabies, reports the New York Post.
