A Southwest plane was shot at at the Texas airport

A Southwest Airlines plane carrying passengers was hit by gunfire as it prepared to take off at Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas, authorities said.

Flight 2494 was preparing to depart for Indianapolis when “a bullet likely struck the right side of the aircraft under the crew,” a Southwest spokesman told the BBC’s US partner, CBS News.

According to the representative of the airport, there were no injuries, the plane returned to the exit, and the passengers left.

The domestic airport’s runway was temporarily closed but has since reopened.

Dallas police are now investigating the incident, which happened on Friday night.

Its officers responded to reports of gunfire at 9:48 p.m. local time (03:48 GMT Saturday) and arrived to find the plane had been shot down.

The US Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement that the bullet hit the cockpit of the Boeing 737-800 Max.

No official details have been released about the circumstances of the incident, but local TV station WFAA reported that police believe the shooting was the result of an accidental shooting.

The publication confirms that there were 99 people on board the plane.

Southwest said it would accept all passengers on other flights.

Earlier this week, three planes either landing or taking off from the main airport in Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, were hit by gunfire as gang violence ravages the Caribbean nation.

These incidents prompted the Federal Aviation Administration to ban US airlines from flying to Haiti for 30 days.
