EC asks JP Nadda, Mallikarjun Kharge to comment on complaint against their parties | Latest news from India

The ECI asked Nadda and Kharge to comment on the complaint the poll body received against their party’s star activists.

The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday wrote to BJP president JP Naddi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge after their parties filed complaints against each other before the Election Commission.

The ECI asked Naddu and Kharge to comment on the complaint received by the poll body against their party’s star activists and attached a copy to its notice for them.

Although the BJP approached the ECI to complain about Rahul Gandhi because of his statement that the BJP wanted to “destroy the Constitution”, the Congress complained about some of the remarks made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in their campaign speeches.

The polling body has invited a response from both party presidents by 1pm on November 18.

The ECI also reminded them of the commission’s earlier advisory during the Lok Sabha elections to monitor star activists and leaders so as not to violate public decency and adhere to the letter and spirit of the model code during campaigning.

In its letter to Kharge, the panel said it received a complaint dated November 11 from the Bharatiya Janata Party about violations of the Model Code of Conduct by INC’s star campaigners while campaigning in the ongoing legislative elections. Assemblies of Jharkhand and Maharashtra and several early elections.

“I am directed to enclose herewith a copy of the complaint dated 11.11.2024 filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party, a nationally recognized political party referred to above, with instructions to send its comments to the Commission not later than 13:00 on 18.11.2024 (Monday),” the letter reads. .The poll authority also sends a similar letter to JP Nadda.

Elections to the remaining 38 seats in Jharkhand and 288 seats in Maharashtra will be held on November 20. Counting of votes will take place on November 23.
