Tyreek Hill couldn’t help but stir the pot after the Chiefs took DeAndre Hopkins

Tyreek Hill couldn’t help but stir the pot after the Chiefs took DeAndre Hopkins

The Kansas City Chiefs finally made a splash trade front this week, landing five-time Pro Bowler DeAndre Hopkins from the Tennessee Titans. Despite Patrick Mahome’s unparalleled brilliance at QB, the Chiefs offense has been somewhat muted this season, in large part due to their lack of reliable pass rushers.

We can debate Hopkins’ reliability at age 32, but he’s an experienced WR1 who should benefit from the Mahomes-Andy Reed offensive mix. It’s quite an upgrade from the Will Lewis and Mason Rodolph slog going on in Nashville these days. Hopkins still brings unique size and instincts to the Chiefs’ pass-catching team, and he could very well become the team’s leader in targets once he gets used to it.

Still, many fans had bigger ambitions for the Kansas City trade. Chiefs are limited by a thick sheet, so names like Cooper Kupp actually were never on the table. But that hasn’t stopped fans — and maybe even gamers — from dreaming of more lofty additions like Miami Dolphins wide Tirik Hill.

When asked about the possibility of a trade, Hill rejected all moves. He’s trying to stay upbeat and positive in the face of Miami’s uphill battle. Still, we all know what Mahomes and Hill can do in tandem. The Dolphins are not on track to compete this season; Bosses are very.

To add fuel to the fire, Hill posted a well-timed and admittedly cryptic tweet after the Hopkins news was announced on Wednesday.

Does this mean anything? Will Tyreek Hill ever admit that this means anything? Probably not. But the timing, just hours away from the Hopkins trade, is hard to ignore, especially after Hill has been repeatedly questioned about the possibility of a trade, with Kansas City often being referred to in stark fashion.

Is Hill secretly longing for the hills of Missouri? We may never know. Couldn’t blame him after Miami’s offense went comatose following Tua Tagovailoa’s latest concussion. At 2-4 on the season, the Dolphins are 2.5 games out of first place Buffalo Bills in AFC St. That effectively puts Miami in second place in the division, ahead of the Jets (2-5) and Patriots (1-6), but being surrounded by mediocrity doesn’t absolve Miami of its poor results to date.

But the Dolphins have time to turn this ship around. Tagovailoa is slated to return Sunday, giving Miami’s offense a much-needed boost. Hill was just about the most productive WR in the NFL when Tua threw him the ball, so his own production should pick up along with the offense as a whole.

South Beach is a cool town and many professional athletes have made the effort to play there. The Dolphins are undoubtedly explosive at full strength, but health has been a limiting factor this season. If Tagovailoa gets Miami’s offense back on track, it’s safe to assume Hill’s mysterious social media activity will stop. However, if this season rolls around and the Chiefs continue to push atop the AFC, don’t be surprised if Hill feels (and leads) more than a little salty.
