1 of 2 Teens Charged in 2023 Murder of Washington High School Student Found Guilty

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – One of two teenagers charged the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old Washington high school student was found guilty by a jury last year.

Ezequiel Trejo Jr., 18, of South Bend was found guilty Friday of aiding and abetting the murder of Luis Hernandez-Acosta, who died on July 10, 2023.

They called the police early that morning to a shooting in the 500 block of S. Carlisle Street. Hernandez-Acosta was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to court records, nearby surveillance video showed two people running from the scene and hiding in a backyard. Investigators identified them as Trejo and Edwina Torres-Beserril.

Last July, Torres-Beserril was charged with Hernandez-Acosta’s murder. Its next meeting is scheduled for November 25.

Trejo Jr. will be sentenced on December 11.
