3 bodies of missing suspects found in Jiribam, Manipur

Three bodies, suspected to belong to six persons missing in Jiribam district, were found near the confluence of the Jiri and Barak rivers along the Manipur-Assam border, officials said on Saturday.

The bodies of a woman and two children were found about 16 km from Borobekr in Jiribam district on Friday night, from where six people went missing on Monday, PTI reported in Jiribam district.

The bodies have not yet been identified, but it is suspected that three bodies belonged to the six missing.

The unidentified bodies were taken to the Assam Rural Medical College Hospital (SMCH) on Friday evening and are being kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy

The official said that it has not yet been confirmed that the bodies belong to the missing persons.

He said they were awaiting an autopsy and had collected identification photos.

Autopsies on the bodies found at Jiribam in Imphal are being conducted at the Silchar Medical College Hospital in Assam due to lack of infrastructure in the city.

Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh held a meeting with senior ministers on Friday evening to discuss the situation following the news of the recovery of the bodies, officials told PTI.

Meanwhile, as news of the discovery of the three bodies spread across the Imphal Valley, tension rose in all the five districts and the state government declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Saturday.
