St. Paul Police Release Footage of Officers Shooting Suspect in Bicycle Murder

On Friday, the St. Paul Police Department released video from body cameras and dash cams showing the officers by shooting and killing a murder suspect when he was riding his bike last weekend.

The authorities say Officers Eric Jaworski and Matthew Foy shot and killed 36-year-old Mychel Allan Stowers on Saturday when acting on a tip that Stowers was who he was wanted for murder in connection with the death of his pregnant wife — was in business on West Seventh Street.

Video of the incident shows Foy driving the patrol car while Yavorsky sits in the front passenger seat. The car turns right from Watson Avenue onto Bay Street and Stowers appears on a bicycle.

Jaworski fires his rifle through the windshield while the car is still moving and Stowers stumbles off the bike. Foy then stops the squad and jumps out, firing his gun as Stowers falls to the ground. All the while, a bystander stood frozen on the sidewalk just a few yards from where Stowers lay.

Police say Stowers pointed a gun at officers when he was shot, but the video does not show the gun clearly.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, which investigates deadly force incidents, said its agents recovered a gun at the scene near where Stowers was shot.
