A CN police officer faces drunken driving charges after RCMP say he was twice over the legal limit

An off-duty CN police officer is facing a charge of driving while impaired after driving twice the legal limit, Blue Hills RCMP say.

The 42-year-old man was driving on the Trans-Canada Highway around 9:45 a.m. Nov. 6 when Mounties received a call from another driver concerned about his erratic driving east of Brandon. The caller identified the vehicle in question as a marked police SUV, according to a news release Friday.

The caller followed the vehicle for some time before losing sight of it.

RCMP identified the vehicle as belonging to CN Police and located it at a home in Brandon. According to the Mounties, the police officer was arrested for driving under the influence.

He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Brandon Provincial Court on January 2, 2025.

The officer’s name will be released after formal charges are laid, RCMP say.

The Manitoba Police Independent Investigations Unit was also notified the day of the officer’s arrest and is monitoring the investigation.
