Airdrie RCMP Help Arrest Fifth Suspect in 2023 Murder – DiscoverAirdrie.com

In a major development in the investigation into the 2023 slaying of Calgary resident Tara Miller, 37, whose body was found near Okotoks, Alberta, Airdrie RCMP were among the squads that assisted in the arrest of a fifth suspect.

Paul Fettig, a 43-year-old resident of Calgary, was arrested on November 13 and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Fettig is in custody and will appear in court in Calgary on Monday.

The RCMP’s General Investigations Section also assisted the Alberta Major Crimes Investigations Unit, and the Investigation Assistance Team assisted in taking Fettig into custody.

The arrest is the latest chapter in an ongoing investigation that began on March 30, 2023, when Miller’s body was discovered near Highway 522 and 128th Street in Foothills County.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit quickly determined the cause of death to be homicide, prompting an intensive investigation. In the following months, the RCMP, assisted by the Calgary Police Service and the Southern Alberta Provincial Crime Squad, made several arrests, including four people taken into custody on January 18, 2024, in connection with Miller’s death.

Among the persons arrested at the beginning of this year:

  • Herpreet Gill, 30, of Calgary, was charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
  • Greg Shuster (30) and Jared Burke (24), both charged with manslaughter and related crimes.
  • Skiana Popplestone, 25, another Calgary resident, was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

RCMP have previously appealed to the public for any additional information that could assist the ongoing investigation, particularly from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious near the scene or has information about Miller’s whereabouts in the days leading up to her death.
