Alejandro Gutierrez, 21, was arrested after evading arrest and DWI

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS). A 21-year-old man is in custody after leading police on a car chase, crashing into a utility pole and trying to flee on foot.

It happened Friday morning at approximately 3:46 a.m. when patrol officers from the Laredo Police Department reported a black Mercedes Benz speeding near the 2000 block of Corpus Christi.

The driver sped off after officers attempted to stop the vehicle, sparking a chase. A short time later, the vehicle crashed into a utility pole near the 2100 block of Fremont Street, when the suspect exited the vehicle and began chasing officers.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Alejandro Gutierrez, was eventually arrested and charged with evading motor vehicle arrest and DWI.

He was arrested and taken to the Webb County Jail.
