There is no “4-D chess” in choosing Trump’s cabinet

There is no “4-D chess” in choosing Trump’s cabinet

Sarah Matthewswho served as deputy press secretary during the first Trump administration, in an interview with MSNBC on Friday mocked claims that her former boss nominated controversial figures in a complicated game.

Matthews joined the network Chris Jansing to discuss the newly elected president Donald Trump nominations controversial people to the highest government positions.

Trump announced this week that he would run Matt Goetz run the Department of Justice and press Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Department of Health and Social Services. These and other announcements have led to bipartisan opposition and questions about whether Trump’s nominees will be able to pass the Senate.

Enabled Chris Jansing reports, host asked Matthews about Trump perhaps playing a difficult game.

“So if you have multiple controversial candidates, could that be a deviation?” Yansing asked. “Again, based on the time you’ve spent with Donald Trump and in his orbit, do you think he can pull off that kind of strategy?” Matthews replied:

I think it’s kind of funny, all this talk about Donald Trump is a game of 4-D chess. He puts forward a crazy candidacy, knowing it will fail. So then he can put his second choice and the Senate will have no choice but to confirm them. This is not what is happening. He knows that he is now drunk with power, because he feels that he got the mandate by winning the popular vote.

He controls both houses of Congress and doesn’t have to worry about re-election. So, in this term, he wants to put the people he wants. So he’s not playing some 4D chess game trying to bring out a sacrificial lamb like Matt Goetz for AG.

Matthews concluded that she believes the GOP-led Senate will push through many of Trump’s cabinet proposals, but predicted Goetz would not be confirmed.
