A curfew remains in the French territory of Guadeloupe due to a power outage

French authorities have maintained a nighttime curfew in the Caribbean Guadalupe On Saturday, as they fought to restore power, they accused striking power workers of sabotage.

Guadeloupe and the neighboring French island Martinique have seen weeks of often violent protests against the cost of living. After 16 days, a night curfew is in effect in Martinique emotion there.

The EDF the power company said two-thirds of the 380,000 people affected by the blackout had electricity again. Authorities accused the strikers of blocking engines at the Jarry power station and cutting off electricity to the island.

The head of the regional government, Guy Losbar, said that he was “outraged” by the actions of the workers.

Authorities in Martinique, which has a population of about 350,000, said that despite a curfew, about 50 masked “troublemakers” had set up burning roadblocks in two areas.

According to authorities, shots were fired last night, trucks were stolen and gas stations were robbed.
