Woman charged in Hialeah hit-and-run crash that killed elderly couple – NBC 6 South Florida

On Friday, the state formally filed vehicular homicide charges against a woman who allegedly shot and killed an elderly couple in a hit-and-run in Gayala last month

Records show Susey Calquines faces two counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Earlier it was thought that prosecutors might not have enough evidence to complete a vehicular homicide charge.

Calsines was brought to court on Friday.

According to an arrest report, the suspect was driving a black 2007 Mercedes GL450 when she hit Julio Hernandez, 87, and Manuela Hernandez, 84, at an intersection near 8th Avenue and 47th Street in October. She left without providing assistance or leaving her details, the report said.

“They had just finished eating around 6:30 p.m. and went to play the lottery nearby,” their daughter Maria told NBC6 at the time. “I got to their house two minutes later, noticed they weren’t there, and went to look for them. When I saw the police, I ran over, but they had already left.”

Police said Calcines, who had no prior driving experience, was the only person in the SUV.

Calcines later told police she had no recollection of the crash, the report said.

The daughter said that the couple lived together for 40 years.

“It’s terrible. You just destroyed a family. An elderly couple, a husband and wife, who were able to build a life and family here in the US and you just destroyed it and left the scene of the accident without giving a single species. help these people,” Hyale police Lt. Eddie Rodriguez said at the time. “I hope the full weight of the law falls on her.”

This is an evolving story. Update for updates.
