FORMER Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has always been a fan of Curtis Jones and criticized the FA for sticking with him for too long.

But the Anfield hero Gerrard believes that the midfielder should have played earlier.

JonesThe 23-year-old has already played almost 150 games for the Reds since breaking into the first team in 2019.

Gerrard, 44, worked with Jones when he was Liverpool Under-18/19 manager.

And when he stepped into the Ibrox dugout as Rangers manager in 2018, he made it a priority to bring in Jones Glasgow.

After he saw him as the three lions, Gerrard had his say Instagram account that the FA should be PENALIZED for being late to the party.

He wrote on his Instagram story: “What a player. Fine the FA and all the coaches for being late.”

Gary McAllister was Gerrard’s No.2 during Gerry’s time and he opened LFCTV that Jones was a transfer target for the Light Blues boss.

He said: “We did everything we could to try and get him on the road (to Rangers).

“Obviously Stephen was working with him and all the Rangers lads were desperate to get him but he wasn’t available.”

Gerrard is struggling in his current role as a manager Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia.

He and his team were booed after the recent derby defeat and instead of improving on their sixth-place finish last season, they sit 12th in the Saudi Pro League standings.

This is despite the involvement of the former Fulham goalkeeper Marek Rodak and paid almost £8m for him Roma star Joao Costa during the transfer window.

Club leaders in Al-Ettifaq made changes around Gerrard earlier this weeksacking sporting director Mark Allen and sacking assistant coach Dean Holden, who only contacted Gerrard in February.

Allen spent three years at the Light Blues as their director of football, with Gerrard as the point man.
