Major League Baseball has settled a lookalike rights dispute with FanDuel

Major League Baseball’s players’ union has successfully settled a lawsuit against betting company FanDuel over the unauthorized use of players’ names and likenesses on its betting platform.

The union entered into a confidential licensing agreement with FanDuel that resulted in their lawsuits being dismissed in New York federal court. A dismissal with prejudice means that the lawsuit cannot be refiled.

Similar lawsuits have been filed against other industry players, such as DraftKings, highlighting the ongoing challenge of protecting athletes’ commercial rights.
